Ordering Products from a Shoppe
Contents |
Shoppes sell a variety o' goods that a pirate might find want fer in the course of their everyday activities: cannonballs, swords, rum, sailin' vessels, sharp lookin' Captain's hats and much more. A pirate places orders at shoppes to have these goods produced when they wants 'em, but it is important to know a few things about the production system before ye go ordering away.
Shop Local, or Comparison Shop?
On the top you'll see a button where ye can choose to shop at yer present location, if you are in a stall or shop, or comparison shop across the whole island. By default you'll only use the comparison shopping option when in the entrance to a Bazaar, where lots of stalls are competing for business.
What are all them fancy pictures?
Everything produced by a shoppe has a set of ingredients, these include things like raw commodities (like sugar cane or wood), refined commodities (like brown cloth), and labor of particular types and skill levels (like skilled tailoring labor or expert smithing labor).
It is the shoppe keeper's job to ensure that they have the commodities and workers to provide you with the products that you need. As you progress in the game, you will learn that enterprising pirates can trade commodities to shoppe keepers and keep the engines of commerce running across the archipelago.
As a result of this varying supply and demand, a shoppe may at times lack the commodities or labor to produce an item that you desire to order. Unless ye fancy yerself a trader and have a crew and a vessel to back ye up, yer best bet in this case is to try placing yer order at another shoppe (possibly even on on another island which might have a better deal) rather than going in search of the needed ingredients yerself.
If and when ye do feels that ye has the mettle fer a life o' tradin' you'll want to read about trading goods from the hold of yer vessel which is how this type of thing is generally accomplished.
What do ye mean three weeks?!
When ye gets a quote on an order, it includes the estimated time that it will take for this shoppe to produce yer order. The labor needed to produce an order is provided by the pirates that work at a shoppe and only a certain number of pirates can work on orders in a shoppe in a given period of time. This means that when there's a big backlog of orders, it could take quite a while for yer order to be produced. Shop around!
The estimate that ye see when getting a quote is in real-life time, and beware, it's just an estimate. Sometimes things get finished quicker and sometimes the only land lubber that can produce the labor ye need went on vacation and let their skills fall to pieces in the meanwhile. The best thing ye can do is to shoppe around and find the best balance of low-cost and quick-delivery so that ye gets what ye wants, when ye wants it.
